When the team needs to create a model, a proof of concept or a prototype of the project’s solution, it must ask itself about all the aspects of the solution that can highlight its value.
There are at least 3 prisms from which a new solution can derive value: its structure, its functions, and its symbolism.
Let’s take the example of toothbrushes for children
A solution can be distinguished by its structure, its material, its size or its packaging, etc. A solution can be distinguished by its structure, its material, its size or its packaging, etc., like for example a bi-injection system which would make it possible to represent the toothbrush as a small sympathetic and reassuring character with a suction cup at the foot of the handle to allow the brush to stand upright by itself
A solution can also be distinguished by its function, such as the addition of a sound or light timer system that would help parents learn about dental hygiene
Finally, a solution can be distinguished by its symbolism, such as associating the toothbrush with a superhero, a prince or a princess, an inspiring character, who embodies an ideal to be reached for the child
In developing the offer that must result from the project, the team must describe the solution according to the three prisms of structure, function and symbol in order to arbitrate on the right mix between the three to create the solution with the greatest impact.
